How To Enable Picture Password Instead Of Password In Windows 8

Password protecting access to PC, smartphones, tablets etc. has become a norm. Various other methods like Pin, facial recognition, patterns are also used to protect our account from unwanted access. However, did you know that Windows provided yet another method which you can use to protect your account. This is called Picture Password.

Picture password in general is made for touchscreen PCs, tablets or smartphones. However if you wish, you can use this method for standard PC or laptop too. Here, you have to use Mouse to unlock your PC. All you have to do here is to draw spheres, arrows, tap or click points over an image you have chosen. Attraction towards picture password is obvious. It is slightly more fun and it gives you a new way of unlocking your account. 

How To Enable Picture password

Step 1: At first press Win+I. It will open a sidebar in the right panel. Select Change PC settings from the right bottom corner. You can also open this by typing PC settings in the search option of the start screen. It will open the below shown screenshot.

Step 2: Select Accounts here. It will open a new window in the left side panel as shown below:

Step 3: Select Sign-in options here. It will open a new window in the right side panel. Click on Add option under the Picture password section.


Step 4: It will open a new window asking your Password. If you haven't made any password yet on your PC, it will ask to create a password first. 

Step 5: Once you put your password in the required field, it will ask you to choose a picture like the below shown screenshot. 


Step 6: You can see a spot in the above screenshot encircled in green rectangle. You have to made similar structures i.e. spot, arrow or sphere depending on your own choice. Here, click on Choose Picture. This will open a new window which asks you to select a picture which you want to set as the picture password. Once you select a picture, click on Open button.

Step 7: This will open the picture with two options. The first one is to use this picture and the other one is to choose new picture. Opt whichever you wish to do. 

Step 8: Once you determine which picture to use and select use this picture, it will ask you you to set up your gesture. Like in the below shown screenshot, you have to make three gestures, it could be all spheres, all arrows, all dots or a combination of them. 


Step 9: When you are done with the gestures, it will confirm all the previous drawn gestures. If you draw these gestures correct, then you are done with this otherwise it will show a message "Something went wrong" and you have to start over the drawing once again by pressing Try Again. You can click on start over anytime if you wish that it is not going as you wish too. 

Step 10: When you complete these step correctly, press on finish and your system has a picture password now.
