Here we are going to describe how to record your screen while watching any movie, video on VLC Media Player. We all know that vlc is widely used all over the world as it is considered as the best media player. VLC provides lots of interesting features. This media player is so famous that even if a similar media player is launched, we don't prefer them and use vlc unconditionally. 
Vlc has brought a new feature in itself and it is that You can record your desktop screen using this player. This is really a good feature as we have to use various software especially for recording of screen. Using this you can record screen easily and then save it in mp4 format which is again a very good thing as otherwise, we have to convert the type of video into mp4 format. You can view your recorded media directly from VLC.
The quality of recorded media here is fairly good. If quality is an issue for you, then this feature might not be good for you. You continue to use screen recording software. For those, who don't want to get a separate software for this, this might be very fruitful for them. 
How to Record Desktop Screen Using this Player

Follow the below written steps to start recording your desktop screen using this media player.

1. At first, open the vlc media player and select the Media menu. When You click on it, there will be an "open capture device" option.

2. Tap on it and it will open a new window which is shown below. Here in the open media, click on capture device and then press desktop option in the capture mode. You can even select the desired rate of capturing media. You can go for any speed of capturing media but it would be good for 15 f/s. 
3. After this you can select convert option present at the last using the drop down menu at the bottom. It will open the convert window where you can decide the output format for the recorded media. 
4. It also provides the feature of enabling 'display the output' using which you can see a preview of recorded media.
5. At last, select the destination folder and click on Start Button. It will start the recording of screen immediately. You can now minimize your screen and record your desktop activities as well.
Note: You can also edit profile using Settings button to set video resolution, other output format, etc. But doing so might affect your screen recording, so I would recommend you to go with default settings for your profile.

This can help you if you are going to make a video for others making them aware of certain process on how to do it or explaining any game mode or function of new launched app. You can even use this feature while talking to someone on Skype or team viewer.
